What I’m learning from my 4th surgery

I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been feeling very guilty and stressed AF trying to fully rest after my 4th surgery, a few weeks ago.

As most of you know, I recently had another reconstructive surgery on my breasts which is hopefully 🤞🏽 the last of them. We’ll see at my post-op this week. I swapped out my left implant to match my implant on the right and had fat grafting on my inner and back thighs to fill in the spaces around both breasts.

So far I’m happy with the results and have been recovering fairly easy, I’m just praying the results last.

So why am I stressed, you may ask? Because I carry so much guilt about not showing up for this community and online how I feel I “should.” I’ve been building this community for the last few years and sometimes forget that we’re all on the same journey.

I may look like I have it all together online but sometimes I feel like I’m drowning. I couldn’t be more proud of the Cancer Baddies launch last month but I also know that if I don’t show up for you all, who will? I forget that sometimes I just need to be the patient and not always the caregiver.

Striving for perfection has always been something I’ve struggled with (thanks to my therapist for shedding light on this 😂). I never want to let anyone down and most times, I end up letting myself down for not being able to produce produce produce. When all I should be doing is rest rest rest.

The last few days I have been forcing myself to not work, not churn out content, and not stress about the imaginary running to-do list in my head. What I’ve realized is that if I am being allowed to rest right now and I don’t take advantage of it, I will come back even more stressed, even more burnt out and more resentful than ever.

If you’re in the same boat, I encourage you to do something you wouldn’t normally do - take a mini trip, turn your computer off or sleep in until your heart desires. Why? Because we all deserve it.

So- if I’m a bit quiet over the next few days, you know why. Just know, this isn’t easy for me but it’s important that I really nurture myself in the same ways I always encourage you to do. That’s what we call self-care baby.

Self Love & Relationships Through Cancer

This month we are focusing on self love and the relationships we have. Yes, commercially this month was built for lovers, but don’t let the capitalist agenda fool you into believing you aren’t doing enough or have enough if you’re single. This month is also about you. Where can you show yourself more love and grace? How can you appreciate how far you have come throughout your journey? Is there anyone you can thank for showing up for you when you couldn’t show up for yourself??

Regardless, next weeks’ event will be perfect for lovers, singles and anyone in between! Make sure to RSVP :)
