Sex, Dating, Intimacy Event Recap + Maintaining Weight on Tamoxifen

Spilling all the 🍵 inside!

Dr. Corinne Menn gave the girlies all the tips 🔥

Wed night was round two of Dr. Corinne Menn’s chat with Cancer Baddies! She not only came with all of the sex/intimacy tips but she answered all of your burning questions.

Here are some of the top questions she answered:

How do I make sex less painful and bring moisture back to my vagina?

Using a low-dose estrogen cream 2x a week will restore moisture and your microbiome naturally. Research studies show there are zero risks to using localized estrogen and increasing your chance of cancer reoccurrence.

Does vaginal estrogen help prevent Bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections?

Yes! Due to the lack of estrogen in your vagina, your microbiome changes which leaves you more at risk for BV and yeast infections. Using estrogen cream 2x/week in the base of your vagina & on the outside will significantly reduce the change of these infections.

What can cancer baddies do to help w libido? Can we use Addyi or Vyleesi?

Yes! I recommend both. Vyleesi can cause nausea so we do recommend taking an anti-nausea med for the first few uses. Addyi takes some time before it starts working so make sure to be patient.

How do I start feeling comfortable with sex after chemo and surgeries?

Feeling sexy starts from within. If you don’t feel sexy, how will your partner find you sexy? It starts with self-love and doing what feels comfortable for you. I had my nipples removed due to a bilateral mastectomy so I feel my best in a lace bra and don’t really want to be touched on my breasts. Learning to love yourself again after treatment is something you have to do first.

How I’m Maintaining my Weight on Tamoxifen (or AI’s)

As we all know (or if you don’t now you do) that the side effects of taking Tamoxifen or being on an aromatase inhibitor (AI) are pretty gnarly. One of the main side effects is weight gain and inflammation.

Within a few months of starting Tamoxifen I definitely noticed a lot of puffiness in my face, body and weight gain in my midsection. No matter how much I worked out or ate healthy, the weight would not budge. It caused a lot of frustration especially because of my career in fitness but also because feeling good in your skin is very important!

After speaking with a dietitian friend, she recommended starting a micro-dose of a GLP-1. Now, this was not my first rodeo with a GLP-1; I had been on and off Semaglutide for a few years due to the weight gain caused from my undiagnosed Hashimoto’s. My oncologist was onboard so I started my weekly micro-dose injections. My goal was not to lose weight but to maintain my healthy, natural weight. I wanted to keep the side effects from taking Semaglutide as low as possible so that meant keeping my dose as low as possible.

I have been on Semaglutide for about 6-7 months and honestly feel great. Obviously maintaining a healthy lifestyle of diet and exercise is very important. I highly recommend NOT using a GLP-1 as an excuse to eat crappy food and not move your body. This is the quickest way to lose all muscle and maintain a “skinny fat” look. Also, it’s simply just not healthy, so please don’t do it!

I was introduced to the company FancyMeds at the beginning of my journey and they have been wonderful. They have a team of doctors who you meet with and can chat with 24/7. They will prescribe your meds and give you the appropriate dosage. Placing your order is simple and you don’t have to go out of your way to find quality care.

They have given us an exclusive $75 discount for Cancer Baddies members who want to try a GLP-1. Use code: ABUTLER75 at THIS LINK for your exclusive discount!
